“Fang Zhou, you are very thoughtful!” Third Aunt sighed. “Alright, let’s go! I’ll go to the kitchen, the rest of you go back to your rooms or the courtyards.”

The rest of them laughed and got up to leave.

When Lian Hai saw Zhang Xiao Jun letting him in, he was thrilled. Straightening his clothes, he hurried inside. However, when he arrived at the main room and saw Lian Che sitting alone, he immediately froze.

“Che’er, are you home alone?” He couldn’t help but blurt out.

Sure enough, he had an ulterior motive!

Lian Che felt disgusted.

Ignoring Lian Hai’s question, he blinked his clear, innocent eyes and smiled. “I heard from Uncle Zhang that my cousin came to ask me about the exam?”

“Oh, yes, yes!” Lian Hai coughed, his expression changing. There was an unpleasant feeling in his heart and a sense of panic that he couldn’t suppress.

Were these cousins really destined to move further and further apart from him?

Lian Hai felt aggrieved with a hint of grief and indignation.

He didn’t do anything, why were they treating him like this! Wasn’t this just venting their anger on him?

Hmph, what a bunch of narrow-minded and ignorant people!

He didn’t understand that inaction was also a kind a fault. Abetting in disguise!

In some cases, this was even more hateful than the person who was directly at fault!

Lian Hai’s thoughts wandered across the sky, drifting far away. When he suddenly realized he had been quiet too long and pulled his thoughts back, he hurriedly looked at Lian Che. But Lian Che was only sitting calmly, not paying attention to him at all!

In other words, he was being ignored.

Lian Hai felt even more wronged and depressed. His chest was congested and he even wanted to get up and leave in a fit of anger!

But he knew very well that if he did, no one would care. And the next time he visited, he wouldn’t get even a half step inside.

Lian Che obviously didn’t intend to take the initiative to speak so Lian Hai coughed unnaturally and smile. “How was the exam? Do you feel that you did well?”

“It was okay!” Lian Che answered mildly.

“Were there any questions you didn’t understand? Why don’t you tell me, I can give you some advice.” Lian Hai coaxed.

Lian Che resisted the urge to roll his eyes, feeling unhappy in his heart. What did his cousin mean by this? Why was he asking so pityingly? Did he really think he was that bad? Or was it because he was a scholar and the Lian family could only produce one!

“It was fine, I won’t bother my cousin.”

“We are brothers, there is no bothering! If you don’t understand anything, just say it. Although I don’t have much ability, I can still help you a little.”

Now Lian Che was even more upset. Pouting, he said: “No!”

Lian Hai jumped, frowning. How arrogant!

If it was the past, he definitely would have said something about his education. But today was not the same as the past and he could see that Lian Che was not interested in learning from him. It was inconvenient to try and say a few words about modesty and arrogance.

Conversations held by one person were the easiest to go cold.

Lian Hai had no choice but to find a new topic. “Actually, you are still young, and your sister is too impatient. You should have waited a few more years to take the exam to build your confidence. But even if you fail the exam, don’t be discouraged! You are still young and there will be plenty of opportunities in the future.”

Lian Che had aimed for first place with all of his strength, how could he not be annoyed after hearing Lian Hai’s words?

He looked at Lian Hai with three points of anger on his face and said coldly: “Although I haven’t read as many books as my cousin, I understand one truth. This is, no matter what my sister asks of me, it is for my own sake and she will never made a wrong decision for our family. Cousin, please don’t say anything about my sister in front of me again, I don’t like hearing it!”

Scoffing, he added: “Cousin should think about his own affairs, I don’t need my cousin to worry about mine! I have my big sister, my brothers, and my teacher! Besides, Cousin is looking down on me too much. I won’t be arrogant if I pass the exam and I won’t be discouraged if I don’t. Your words are for nothing!”

Lian Hai moved his lips silently, unable to say a word.

What Lian Che said was extremely rude!

Feeling humiliated, the muscles in Lian Hai’s face twitched violently. He wanted to teach him a lesson but couldn’t work up the courage. But if he didn’t put this kid in his place, he would really feel aggrieved and uncomfortable!

He had never felt so helpless and aggrieved in his life!

Lian Che was still looking at him with his big innocent eyes but they were full of an incomparable clarity.

As if what he had said was so natural, there was no reason for the listener to be angry.

Lian Hai let out a deep breath, feeling as if he was sitting on pins and needles.

He waited for Lian Che to expression his intentions to see off his guest so he would have a chance to say goodbye. Unfortunately, Lian Che didn’t say anything, meaning ‘you can sit as long as you like’.

His face red and white, Lian Hai clenched and released his fists several times. Laughing vaguely, he smiled reluctantly and said: “Che’er has only studied for a few days and his speech is already so different—”

Lian Che looked at him with his clear, dark eyes and corrected him seriously: “Not a few days, it’s been more than a year!”

“…” Lian Hai’s cheek muscles twitched fiercely. “… I will wait for good news from Che’er’s school. I will go first!” He couldn’t take it anymore and got up.

Lian Che also got up, saying: “Cousin, please!” He walked him to the door just like he had sent off Sun Ming.

Leaving Lian Fang Zhou’s house and hearing the sound of the door closing behind him, Lian Hai couldn’t help but stop and turn around to look at the two tightly closed doors, suddenly feeling a sense of bleakness.

This time, they had really annoyed him!

But he was wronged too!

Lian Hai shouted in his heart: Hadn’t he tried to persuade his parents? Hadn’t he tried to reign them in? He said everything he could! But they were his parents, as the son, could he control what they say or do?

And besides, wasn’t the matter with Fang Zhou a false alarm? She didn’t even suffer any damage. And she could clearly still get married, since Ah Jian was going to marry her soon.

On the contrary, it was his maternal family who were forced to flee their home!

Wasn’t her revenge enough? What else did she want?

Thinking about it, Lian Hai couldn’t help but feel resentful. How could she be such a small-minded person! If it wasn’t for—

Hmph! If it wasn’t for the sake of the Su family and the Cui family, and the cotton business, he wouldn’t bother to talk to her at all…

But because of those reasons, he did need to talk to her. Even if she didn’t want to talk to him at all!

Lian Hai became even more irritable.

This was so annoying!

  1. Ugh, the chapters with LH just get more and more disappointing…he was such a promising character at the start, why did he have to turn into a caricature…
